How to See Instagram DM Requests? All You Need to Know

Where does an Instagram DM request go?

If someone whom we don’t follow sends us a direct message, Instagram requires that we grant permission before opening that message.

Also, message requests on Instagram will be sent to someone else who is not following us once we try to send them an IG DM.

In this article, we’ll learn all we need to know about how to see an Instagram DM request, whether we are used to managing our direct messages on PC or the mobile app.

How to Find Message Requests on Instagram?

As mentioned earlier, anyone can send us a DM. However, if we are not following them, their message will be automatically stored in a request tab. To see this Instagram DM request, we should follow the instructions below.

  • First, we must open our Instagram profile home page.
  • Then, tap the paper plane in the top-right corner of the screen.
  • Now, we can see three tabs – Chats, Rooms, and Requests.
  • Next, in the “Requests” tabs, we can access both our Instagram message requests and Instagram hidden messages requests.

  • Finally, we have three options to choose from – block, delete, or accept.

What are Instagram hidden message requests?

Instagram has shared this new update to prevent us from having to face messages that contain any kind of abusive content. As we get to reach a wider audience, we are bound to be most exposed to abusive content, whether it’s racist, sexist, or any other kind of abuse.

What Instagram does is categorize these messages as hidden Instagram requests by filtering offensive words, phrases, and emojis.

As mentioned earlier, to see the hidden Instagram DM requests, simply click on the paper airplane, go to “requests” and we will find a separated category.

Why do my Instagram DM requests disappear?

There are four possibilities as to why our Instagram DM request has disappeared. First, the person from whom we have received the DM has an unsent Instagram message. Secondly, we might have been blocked. Thirdly, their account has been deactivated, and last but not least, we have followed them.

On the other hand, a DM request can disappear from the request folder on Instagram simply thanks to a glitch. If that’s the case, our Instagram DM request will reappear automatically after we restart the app.

Can Someone See When You Accept Their Message Request on Instagram?

To access our Instagram direct inbox, and check our DM either on PC or the mobile app, we can adopt 4 different attitudes towards the request messages.

The first one is to open the Instagram DM request and read it without hitting the “Accept” button. This will not let the person, who has sent us the DM, know that we have read their message.

The other option is to accept their Instagram message request. In that case, they will get a notification that you have seen their message.

The other things you could do is to either block the user who has sent an Instagram DM request or delete the message.

What Happens When You Accept a DM Request on Instagram?

Should we accept an Instagram DM request, two things will happen.

  1. The sender will understand that you have read their message.
  2. We can continue communicating with the sender through our Instagram direct inbox.

However, we must keep in mind that if our page is private, the sender will still need to get permission to follow us before being able to access our IG feed, stories, and IGTV. So, accepting Instagram requests will only allow communication through our Instagram direct inbox, and no more.

How to Make the Most of Our Instagram Direct Inbox?

Apart from a request folder on Instagram, we can organize our Instagram direct inbox concerning “read”, “unread” and “sent” messages. This will help us to prioritize our IG messages and deal with the most important ones first.

To do this, we can use the DMpro app. As a business or creator, DMpro will help us manage our Instagram direct inbox more effectively in addition to other great features that boost our IG DM strategy. Here is how to organize and filter our Instagram direct inbox with DMpro.

  • To begin with, we should sign up on DM pro for free. The good news is that it takes less than a minute to fill its form and doesn’t require any credit card number.

  • Next, we can add one or multiple IG accounts to our dashboard on DMpro. All we need to do is click on “Add Instagram Account”.

  • Now, if we have added more than one Instagram account, we should select the one we wish to work with and click “Manage”.

  • After clicking on the “manage” button, we access the features on our dashboard. To filter our Instagram direct inbox, we go to the “Direct Messages” tab and select “DM Inbox”.

  • Then we click the “filter” button to organize your messages.

On top of that, we can use DMpro as an all-in-one DM manager. Here are other features to use in favor of our IG DM strategy.

How do you know if someone rejects your DM on Instagram?

If we have sent an Instagram DM request to someone who is not following us, we can only be sure that it is accepted through the “seen” feature.

However, if we neither get the “seen” feature nor a reply, we can never be sure whether our Instagram message request is rejected or read as a preview in the request folder on Instagram without having accepted our direct message.

Incidentally, if we don’t get a response after a long time, no matter if our Instagram message request is declined or just read as a preview without being accepted.

Receiving an Instagram message from someone we don’t follow, we will see an Instagram DM request to accept, decline or block. Checking the request folder on Instagram is possible on both PC and the mobile app.

All we need to do is click on the paper airplane and see the message requests on Instagram.
